For X-Plane Mac/Windows/Linux 11.00 and later:

When the Pros fly their flight simulators for currency-checks, an instructor is hiding behind the scenes, setting location, weather, and inducing simulated aircraft failures during the flight test.

The goal is to survive the flight… despite the impossible weather, aircraft weight and balance, and equipment failures that are being triggered by the devilish instructor cowering behind the pilot.

Now, you can get this experience in X-Plane for Macintosh, Windows, and Linux personal computers by running this App on your iPad or iPhone (…with, of course, a willing tormentor to set all the various failures at the worst-possible time! Or just set them yourself.. the interface is clean and fast.

Here is how it works:

Simply fire up X-Plane on your Macintosh, Windows, or Linux personal computer and Control Pad on your iPhone or iPad. As long as they are all logged into the same WIFI network, they will see each other, and: Viola! You now have an Instructor Operator Station for X-Plane on your iPhone or iPad!

Now, on your iPad, you can load aircraft, set location, set the weight and balance of the airplane you are flying, set the weather in X-Plane, see a map complete with plan and profile views to see how well you are flying your approaches, and even induce any of the aircraft equipment failures possible in X-Plane (currently, about 1,000 possible failures!)

So, with this App, you can take X-Plane from a fun flight simulator up to a pro-level training experience.. assuming, of course, that you can handle the heat.

Pros and cons of X-Plane Control Pad app for iPhone and iPad

X-Plane Control Pad app good for

Very nice App Now my dad can teach me with the control pad for my Twin IFR
The best marks for a good idea,I feel like a real insructor!!

Some bad moments

I have an iPad 3 on iOS 7.1 and it wont connect to my X-Plane 10.40. Please fix this...really love the simulator.
I was to buy X-Plane to use Control Pad. I bought it but Control Pad doesnt work so far.
You need the original x-plane to play and use it but all you can find is x-plane 10 and thats what I have.Do not install it.Its a waste of your time!
I use X-Plane for pilot training and this is a great addition. Instead of a dedicated instructor station computer this app gives me total control of the sim from my iPad. This free app offers many features that werent even available on the instructor stations on multi-million dollar sims I used during my career as an airline pilot. The added flexibility of having all this in a mobile tablet format is another big plus. Finally being able to pause and replay a maneuver is a great tool for building trainee insight in performing training tasks.
This app has much promise however it never finished downloading navigation data. When I moved the aircraft icon on the iPad x-plane on my computer crashed. I have a feeling there will be a few more updates until this works reliably.
I connected to my iMac with the app and it worked very well, but I also run X-plane in Windows 10 (Asus ROG connected to 27" monitor, mini display port), I could not connect the app in my iPad or iPhone with Windows, the iMac was off to avoid interference in the Network if any.The program suppose to be Mac/Win/Lin compatible. There is no way to check what settings this app is using. I hope that it gets fixed or some help is provided.
